If you think you do not have enough stamina or flexibility to comfortably enjoy sex, then you may want to opt for sexercise. Sexercise is exercise to improve your sexual performance and function. It can help make sex more satisfying for you and your partner. The term ‘sexercise’ was coined by celebrity trainer Jason Rosell. It is interesting to note that physical fitness can improve your sex life, and a happy and healthy sex life can boost your overall health too.

Benefits of exercise for sex

Physical fitness can help improve your sex life by making sex more comfortable as well as reducing the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) and arousal issues. This also helps people feel more comfortable and confident while having sex. Exercise can also reduce the risk of chronic illnesses like diabetes, that can lead to sexual issues. Here are three categories of exercise you can do to improve your sexual performance.

1. Aerobic exercise

Aerobic exercise like walking is a great way to start working out in case you are out of practice. Aerobic exercises increase your heart rate and help maintain healthy weight, improve blood pressure, and boost your levels of physical fitness. It may also help with erectile dysfunction. Swimming is also a great exercise and you can also do running, jogging and jumping rope.

2. Pelvic floor exercises

Pelvic floor exercises strengthen your pelvic floor – which involves a group of muscles that support the bladder. Kegels is a great form of pelvic floor exercise. It involves contracting your muscles, as if you are holding your pee. Try tensing and releasing the same muscles used to stop urinating several times per day. Gradually, increase the duration of tensing the muscles – start with 5 seconds and go up to 30 seconds. You can also practice squats that will strengthen your abs and pelvic floor.

3. Strength and flexibility training

Increasing your strength and flexibility can make sex easier and more comfortable. Try doing yoga and Pilates for improved flexibility. Some yoga positions can also be adopted into sex positions. For increasing your strength, opt for weight lifting and bodyweight exercises. These include leg raises, knee tucks, squats, pushups, pullups, and dips.

Benefits of sex for health

Just like exercises can lead to better sex, so can healthy sex be beneficial for your health. Some health benefits of sex include better heart health, a healthier immune system, better emotional health, better self-esteem, healthy relationships, better sleep, and stress management.
