Rapper Priddy Ugly has released a new single titled Tshela and it is fused with a lot of South African sounds not just the typical South African hip hop. The rapper has since opened up about how the song came about.

Priddy Ugly says he recorded the song in 2015 but he didn’t like how it sounded at that time.

“Started working on #Tshela in December 2015. I had played @wichi1080 some old school Kwaito music that I liked as a youngin, and that’s what inspired the production. I dropped YDKMY and it was supposed to feature on the project, but I wasn’t happy with how it was sounding at the time. It had a lot of complexities as far as the raps were concerned. I needed it to be much simpler if it was going to do what I needed it to,” the rapper wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.

I performed the song to test it out at some of my shows, and the reception was always dope. I kept developing new ideas for it each time I played or performed it. It was already a big song in my immediate circle, all those close to me wanted me to release it, but I still felt that it wasn’t ready. I took a few more months to keep finessing it. I wanted the song to appeal to a much bigger audience, young and old. This is the 1st that I decided to deliver predominantly in vernac, I needed it to sound undoubtedly South African and authentic. I needed it to be complex in its simplicity but very simple in its complexity, finding that balance took two years,” he adds.

He revealed his new label Ambitiouz believed in the song and that was why he finally released it. “@Ambitiouz_Entertainment believed in the song as much as I did, and it’s finally out after hours and months of work, everything on the song is intentional and I had an awesome time working on it and now I’m going to have an even better time performing it. The love and response to it in the streets has been overwhelming,” he said. You can get the song on Fakaza.com
