Cassper Nyovest has made a rather uninspiring move and has signed the first music deal of his career with Universal Music SA. The rapper few weeks ago announced his frustration over the lack of a chart toping single in his years old career.
Universal Music has also announced that Cassper will be releasing a new album in 2 weeks, a Kwaito album that has been titled Sweet Short. The release date of the project coincides with the next Fill Up in Durban.
The development was met with mixed review with Cassper Nyovest being the champion of independent musicians in the whole country. Fans and upcoming artistes have described him as a sell out and a betrayer having led them into refusing deals themselves.
Dunno how to feel about @CassperNyovest signing with Universal Music after being a champion of independent musicians.
Look, everyone is entitled to change their mind or do what’s best for them, but I’d be lying if I said this news didn’t disappoint a bit.
But I wish him well.

Cassper however has said he still owns his music, although it is expected that the real terms of the deal with never be known.
This is another win for independent musicians. There’s a lot I’m going to teach through the partnership. Still own a 100 percent of my Label and a 100 percent of My Masters. This is a new business module and if you know me as a businessman you know It’s the BAG!!! Secure the BAG! https://t.co/Kwp6KWIfaZ
