Police are investigating the murder of a 19-year-old.

The teen was shot in the head during a protest in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.

The protests started after City of Cape Town law enforcement officials demolished structures on a piece of land in Bloekombos.

Tyres were burnt and stones were thrown at the police during the protest action.

Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa said over 500 protesters stormed a trucking business in Old Paarl Road on Saturday afternoon after a light delivery vehicle was torched outside the truck depot.

Public Order Police present in the area tried to prevent protesters from invading the business, but they were able to force their way into the premises and someone fired a gun from the premises.

Potelwa said a 19-year-old woman was unfortunately hit in her head.

She immediately collapsed and died.

When the group saw this, they fled and scattered.

A 36-year-old man was also injured after rubber bullets hit him in the knee.

However, a 62-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening for the murder.

Thirteen protesters were also arrested on the charges of public violence.

Those arrested are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
