Following the murder of a waiter in Cape Town, the police successfully arrested a suspect.

The 34-year-old suspect is expected to appear in court in connection with the murder of Cape Town waiter, Braden Cannoo.

Cannoo was killed while trying to stop a phone thief in Steenberg Village, Cape Town, on August 3.

The 22-year-old from Lakeside was a waiter at the restaurant when a couple posing as customers stole a cellphone.

According to the restaurant owner, David Ellis, said when Cannoo realized what was going on, he responded by following them out to their car.

“He jumped on the bonnet of the car speeding through the parking lot. He, unfortunately, slipped under the car as it sped towards the traffic circle in Reddam Avenue at the US consulate. Braden sadly succumbed to his injuries.”

Police spokesperson Col Andrè Traut said the man was arrested on Thursday on the charges of murder.

Traut said the man is expected to appear in the Wynberg magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
