Confirmation has not been established from government concerning clarity from President Cyril Ramaphosa to the country
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have their hopes laid on the confirmation that the coronavirus command council is discussing about easing the lockdown regulations and also hoping that there is a possibility that more sectors of the economy would be reopened to save jobs.
But as it stands, no confirmation has been made from the government on when President Cyril Ramaphosa will provide clarity to the country.
The current data has shown that COVID-19 rate in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape is slipping down.
For over two months, the country has been on lockdown level three and calls have grown for the President to ease regulations further.
The focus will be laid on opening more sectors of the economy so as to protect thousands of jobs only if the country as a whole or individual provinces can scale down to stage two.
For the past five months, there has been limits to going to the gym, attending a sports match, or even going for an event.
But Siswe Pamla from Cosatu is appealing to the president to save workers’ jobs:
“We believe that the president should allow for the reopening of those sectors.”
A lot of people are hoping that announcements will be made around family visits, inter-provincial travel, and the ban on tobacco & alcohol sales.
