Professor Salim Abdool Karim have said that within 10 days, South Africa should expect a slight increase in COVID-19 cases.

This will follow a reopening of some economic sectors.

We need to be aware that the threat is ever-present. We need to ensure that infections continue to decline. We expect that there may be a slight increase in cases. Around the 28 of August. If we don’t see that, or if we see a small increase, we can be confident that the easing has not had a major impact.”

He is beckoning on South Africans to keep on practising strict measures so as to precent infection.

Currently, the COVID-19 death toll in South Africa is at 11,839.

According to the Health Department, 8 out of every ten people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
