Two-day water supply disruption expected in Pretoria

Some areas around the Pretoria metro are going to be without water for two days.

This water-cut is going to start on Tuesday 18 August as maintenance work is set to be performed on pipelines around the City.

The City of Tshwane said that the interruption will leave residents of Atteridgeville and Laudium without water for 40-hours.

This situation is unavoidable as the upgrading of the municipal main water supply pipelines ‘has to be done’.

The City of Tshwane said in a statement on Sunday 16 August that the shut down will cause major disruptions in the metro but the work is going to be carried out on time.

“Residents of Region 3 and 4, who relieve their water supply from the Atteridgville and Laudium reservoirs, are informed about a planned water supply interruption due to Rand Water’s planned upgrading work on their bulk supply pipe systems,” they said.

“The two-day shutdown will be effected on 18 and 19 August 2020 between 5:00 and 21:00 on both days.”

They said that the work is being done between two of the city’s major water supply lines.

“This planned shutdown will also affect Hartebeeshoek Reservoir rate level which is likely to run empty within 13 hours if consumption is not reduced.

“The City of Tshwane apologises for any inconvenience that may be encountered because of the scheduled work. We appeal to all residents to utilise water sparingly at this time.”
