Former president Jacob Zuma slams claims made by his estranged wife, Tobeka Madiba-Zuma that he has not been paying maintenance for his 14-year-old daughter.
Zuma denied the allegations and said he has always looked after his family and always supported his child ever since she was born.
Madiba-Zuma approached the court to seek maintenance for their teenage daughter.
She was present during the closed hearing in the Durban maintenance court on Tuesday but Zuma was represented by his legal counsel, advocate Nqaba Buthelezi.
The court appointed a maintenance officer to settle the dispute between the two parties.
Zuma, through his lawyers, will argue that Tobeka was maintained very well.
It is understood that Zuma’ s legal team would request a postponement of the matter.
His lawyer would also be expected to present Zuma’s bank statements and proof of income but it is unlikely that those details will be disclosed.
More updates on this issue to come.
In February, their relationship turned sour after the former president Zuma barred Madiba-Zuma from his Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, home amid claims that she took sensitive SIM cards belonging to Zuma.
They stopped living together ever since that happened.
