The Nelson Mandela Bay acting municipal manager who was arrested early this morning has been released on R20,000 bail.
Mapu and the Port Elizabeth businesswoman, Bulelwa Mkawakwi Ntanga were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning on corruption and fraud charges.
R900,000 bribe was allegedly paid to Mapu linked with a R12m housing tender for a Wells Estate project awarded to Ntanga’s company.
Mapu intends to plead not guilty to the charges.
The duo appeared in the Port Elizabeth magistrate’s courts and were later granted R20,000 bail each.
They were placed under house arrest and barred from entering the municipal building for 30 days.
Mapu’s firearm was also seized but will be returned as soon as the matter is finalised.
The bail was not opposed by the state on the condition that they both stick to the strict restrictions.
The matter has been moved to November 3 to allow further investigation.
