The police have arrested ten suspects for attacking Roodepan police station.
The 10 suspects are between 17 and 41 years.
The police said eight people armed with knives were arrested on Friday after storming into the police station in Roodepan in the Northern Cape.
The eight men were roughly demanding the release of two suspects who were arrested earlier for attacking police.
Police said the two suspects were arrested during their investigative follow up on a theft at Ivory Park late on Friday afternoon..
“They were arrested for assault on police, resisting arrest and possession of dangerous weapons.”
Shortly after the arrest of the two, eight people entered Roodepan police station and threatened them with a knife demanding the release of the two suspects.
“Police managed to arrest the suspects for conspiring to assist and incite escape from lawful custody, assault on police, possession of dangerous weapons and obstructing police in the execution of their duties.
“One member sustained minor injuries. Six knives were confiscated from the suspects”.
They police said the 10 suspects will appear before the Galeshewe magistrate’s court soon while the police will continue with their investigations.
Provincial police commissioner for the Northern Cape Lt-Gen Risimati Peter Shivuri his displeased with this act and has condemned the attack on police.
