The police have arrested an Eastern Cape prison warder for the murder of his wife.

He was accused of allegedly beating his wife to death with a baton in their home in Aliwal North on Thursday.

According to police spokesperson, Moitheri Bojabotseha, the police and a hostage negotiator went to the couple’s house in Cathcart Street.

They had to force their way into the couple’s home.

There, they found the man’s wife who was also a department of correctional services official laying lifeless on the floor.

Bojabotseha said “the body of a woman was found lying on her back on the floor in their bedroom with bruises on her body and two batons next to her”.

However, preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had an heated argument that later led to a physical attack.

The man was inside the house during this discovery.

The police immediately arrested him.
