A Clicks store at Saveways Centre in Emalahleni (Witbank) was damaged on Monday morning after its store got petrol bombed.
This comes after EFF in a statement on Sunday threatened to shut down all of 800 Clicks store if they refuse to close down on Monday following their controversial “racist advert”.
Management of Saveways Clicks confirmed that one of their stores was attacked.
They disclosed that investigation into the incident was underway.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Leonard Hlathi a group of people tried to petrol-bomb the Clicks store in Emalahleni.
“According to information that we have gathered, around 1am a group of men came and threw a petrol bomb at the shop.”
“However, only a few glass [panes] were cracked but the shop itself is safe, nothing was damaged in the shop.”
However, the EFF party members in Emalahleni denied being connected to the petrol-bomb attack.
They also doubted if the damage was caused by a petrol-bomb.
A member of the EFF’s provincial legislature in Mpumalanga, Colleen Sedibe was of the opinion that the fire could have been caused by a faulty electrical connection.
The police is currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
