Load-shedding: Stage 1 on course, Stage 2 to begin later

on

On Monday, the onset of Stage one load-shedding has begun from 8am to 4pm.

On Saturday, the power utility said it came back to Stage 2 so as to refill its emergency generation reserves for preparation against next week.

However, Eskom will progress to the next stage which is Stage 2 load-shedding – starting from 4pm to 10pm.

The power utility expects the resumption of work in different generation units in coming days. But load-shedding might continue until that period.

Unplanned breakdowns amount to 9 272MW of capacity, adding to the 6 314MW currently out on planned maintenance,” Eskom said in a statement.

Eskom teams are working around the clock to return as many of these generation units to service as possible.”

We urge the people of South Africa to continue using electricity sparingly in order to assist Eskom to reduce the instance of load-shedding.”
