3 suspects apprehended in Brits for having endangered pangolin in their possession

Three suspects have been arrested for the possession of a pangolin and are expected to come before the Brits Magistrate Court on Monday for contravening the Biodiversity Act.


North West police apprehended the suspects at a filling station in Brits while they discussed about a possible sale of the endangered species.

Maria Nkabinde from the police said the trio were unable to tender an explanation concerning the possession of the animal.

A tip-off was received from the non-profit organisation responisble for the combatting of the illegal trade of wildlife and endangered species, the suspects were then arrested. The investigation into the matter continues.”

Pangolins are among the world’s most trafficked animal, with thousands of species caught and trapped every year.
