Hawks swoop on eThekwini fraudsters

The folks involved in a 700 million tender scandal in the eThekwini Municipality are expected to be apprehended soon.


This is according to the Hawks after 15 homes belonging to city officials and service providers were raided.

The raid that happened is among the ongoing investigations by the National Clean Audit Task Team in relation to corruption allegations in the Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit.

Hawks spokesperson – Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said they’ve been able to take hold of a number of documents and electronic equipment.

Hopefully we will be able to know at a very short space of time as to what would be the next step in of this investigation,” he said.

It’s not only your big tenders. Even your small tenders that needed services to be rendered as quickly as possible you will find that there are companies that would be requested to bid some of this,” Mulaudzi said.

They are not even on the database, they belong to the officials themselves.”

According to the police, arrests are about to happen.

The municipality is in support of the investigation.

So within the processes that are being conducted we also conduct our own internal processes to ascertain that those who alleged to be part of any did of corruption they are indeed brought to book and they are dealt with within the institutional processes of the disciplinary process.”
