Former president seems to have no other choice than to appear before the court on the listed dates by the Deputy Chief Justice.

Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has set down 16 to 20 November for former President Jacob Zuma to appear before the state capture commission.

He warned that the dates set for Zuma’s appearance can not be negotiated.

Zondo said that if Zuma lawyers refuses to agree with the dates laid down, he would issue a summons on 9 October.

The deputy chief justice indicated that the main reason why Zuma will not appear in court this week as expected was that he is preparing for his trial.

Zondo confirmed that Zuma’s lawyers wrote to make him aware that he would not appear in court this week with reasons related to his health as doctors had advised him to limit his movements during the COVID-19 pandemic because of his age.

Zuma’s lawyers had the intention of discussing an agreeable dates but Zondo said that the commission would not negotiate with them.

Zondo is not willing to comment on Zuma’s reasons.
