The power body chief executive officer, Andre de Ruyter revealed with confidence said that ever since he became in charge of Eskom, there has been no political influence in the company.

“I really can’t complain about the lack of political support and also the flip side of the that, political interference.”

“I’ve had zero political interference from Minister Gordhan. Obviously, he’s a concerned shareholder, so he’ll ask to be briefed from time to time,” De Ruyter said.

He stated that the basic problems he encountered started when Eskom generating capacity had to be repaired and improved.

“We start by tackling the issues one by one. You start by holding people accountable, you start by looking at the fundamentals.”

The continuous blackouts and enormous debt are some of the major problems the power company is facing.

De Ruyter however stated that hopefully by next September, the existing power plants would be able to generate more electricity.

But before then, he is working towards reducing load shedding.
