Still on the fight against gender-based violence, the government has made an open call to the coporate and civil society.
It wants businesses to join its efforts to curb the rising menace called gender-based violence in society.
The minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said that the private sectors could play a critical role in empowering women economically.
She made this open call while speaking at a webinar in which the private sectors associations were present.
Nkoana-Mashabane also detailed the national strategic plan that has been set in order to tackle gender-based violence and femicide.
This includes joining forces with the private sectors and stakeholders in the society.
“We believe that working together with government, business sector, civil society and other stakeholders, we have an important role to contribute to eradicating gender-based violence and femicide in our society.”
On Heritage Day, President Cyril Ramaphosa urged everyone to shun acts related to gender-based violence.
He further added that it is not in SA’s custom and tradition to assault women and children.
