COVID-19 in SA: 29 more deaths recorded, pushing the total number of fatalities to 16,312

As at Friday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa sat at 668,529, with 1,480 new cases identified in the past 24 hours.

According to the national department of health’s statement on Friday evening, 29 more deaths were recorded, taking the total number of COVID-19 related fatalities to 16,312.


The Northern Cape took the larger percentage of number of fatalities, with a record of ; Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal followed suit with a record of five deaths each, Western Cape with four deaths and two deaths from the Limpopo province.

However, the recovery rate now stands at 89.6, which translates that 599,149 patients having recovered from the virus so far.
