South Africa could witness a further increase in COVID-19 cases under level one, due to several folks coming in contact with themselves.

That’s according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases’ Professor Adrian Puren.

“As you’ve opened your society, greater movement, larger numbers of people coming into contact with each other, the more likelihood there are going to be super spreader events and infections occurring. And also remember asymptomatic spread is one of the major roots for spreading, so it’s critical we keep a good handle of we are with this particular epidemic at this particular phase…” said Puren.

He said government needs to brace up by increasing COVID-19 testing capacity.
