The Gauteng Education MEC,  Panyaza Lesufi suggested that this year’s matric exam should not be changed.

This year’s exam was considered to be changed due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

Grade 12 pupils are expected to begin their first paper on November 5 and it is set to come to an end on December 15.

The academic calendar for 2020 got disrupted after the government imposed a lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 by restricting movements which also affected schools.

However, pupils across the country started returning to schools as eased lockdown levels were gradually phased in.

Lesufi in an official statement said the paper has already been set and it should not be adjusted.

“Matriculants of 2020 must be exactly the same as matriculants of 2013 or 2005,” Lesufi said.

“We don’t want to stigmatize the matriculants of 2020 so when they get to university people think they got there easily.”
