Police are investigating a case of murder after a couple was found dead in Eastern Cape.

The couples were murdered in Mooiplaas Village outside East London.

The husband was identified as Sithobile Velebhayi, aged 40, and the wife was identified as Nolukholo Velebhayi, also aged 40.

The police said the 40-year-old husband allegedly went to the homestead of his wife in the Bola Locality on Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said on Monday said that “the wife and her family were preparing to bury their mother.”

The man went to get his wife but when they did not return on time, the wife’s sister became worried.

Manatha said she had to go to their homestead on Saturday morning to check on them.

After knocking for a while without any response, she called on neighbours who helped in forcing the door open.

“The bodies of both the husband and his wife were found with bullet wounds on their upper bodies,” said Manatha.

“The firearm was also found not far from the bodies of the deceased.”
