The ANC confirmed that it has arrested a former Mpumalanga MEC on Monday, after facing allegations of rape.

In a statement, acting provincial secretary of the ANC – Lindiwe Ntshalintshali said they made the arrest at his home and is expected to come before the Nelspruit magistrate’s court within a short period.

However, the name of the official has been withheld from getting to the public, in a bid to protect the identity of his daughters who are the victims in the case.

Ntshalintshali said the party has suspended the member.

[He] has been summarily suspended as a member of the ANC and PEC until the case is concluded by the competent court, consistent with the resolutions of the most recent national executive committee meeting of the ANC and the 54th national conference, which resolved that all members charged for corruption and other serious crimes should step aside from all activities associated with the ANC,” she said in a statement.

Moreover, the former MEC had been involved in several rape allegations.

Recently, he was arrested after getting rape accusations from a woman but after claiming it was consensual, the state withdrew the charges.
