COVID-19 in SA: 188 more deaths recorded as Gauteng records 6% increase in active cases

The Department of Health has recorded 188 COVID-19 related fatalities in the country, which takes the death toll to 16,586.

In the past 24 hours, more than 900 new cases have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections to 671,669.


In addition, the Gauteng Health Department is having concerns about a 6% increase in active COVID-19 cases in the province within a week.

Gauteng has taken the larger percentage of COVID-19 cases in the country, taking more than 32%.

In the past week, Gauteng has witnessed an increase of about 1,700 new COVID-19 cases.
