Mokgoro admits that SOPA never approved the airport development project

After saying that he relied on the State of the Province Address (Sopa) to approve airport development with South African Express, the North West Premier Job Mokgoro later admitted that Sopa never mentioned the project.

Mokgoro made this known at the state capture commission on Thursday.


He is expected to testify about a R50 million payment which he allegedly authorised during his tenure as the director-general of that province.

According to the Community Safety and Transport CFO Kutlwano Phatudi testimonies, Mokgoro authorised the first payment of the contract with SA Express to manage the Mahikeng and Pilanesburg airports.

Phatudi also revealed to told the commission that procurement processes were flouted when the contract was awarded.
