Luxury cars and houses worth millions of rand belonging to Blackhead Consulting director Edwin Sodi, his company, other six co-accused, and five other companies have been confiscated by the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU).

They seven appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court in connection with the R255 million asbestos project.

They were charged with corruption, money laundering and theft.

The court granted them bail ranging from R50,000 to R500,000.

Several properties belonging to the accused including Free State housing head of department Nthimotse Mokhesi, Edwin Sodi and his company were evaluated for a preservation order.

The properties included a Rolls Royce, a Bentley, a Ferrari, a few Porches, other cars and houses.

The NPA’s spokesperson Sipho Ngwema however indicated that more arrests would be made in the next few days or weeks.

“That indictment means that we are ready to go to court even tomorrow because there are 60 charges there, they are clear [and] there is no doubt about the State’s case,” Ngwema said.

“Even the magistrate did mention today that there is a prima facie case based on the charge sheet alone.”

The suspects are expected to appear again in court on 11 November.
