US President Donald Trump has disclosed that he and the first lady, Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19.

Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, said in a statement that the president and his wife “are both well at this time and they plan to remain home at the White House during their convalescence.”

Conley said: “I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering.”

Trump made this announcement on twitter shortly after he tested positive of the virus on Friday.

He tweeted that: “We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The president’s planned campaign rally in the crucial swing state of Florida was cancelled by the White House on Friday.

Trump’s other scheduled trip for this weekend and next week could also get cancelled in the light of the test result.

The shocking news came after one of Trump’s closest advisors, Hope Hicks, reportedly tested positive of the virus.
