Man in possession of rhino horn worth R1.2m apprehended in KZN

A 30-year old man was arrested for possession of a rhino horn worth R1.2m. The man will appear at the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court on Monday.

On Friday, the SAPS Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad and K9 Unit apprehended a 30-year old man for having a rhino horn in his possession.

Police spokesperson Capt. Nqobile Gwala said officers were on a operation when they saw and halted a black BMW vehicle on the N3.


“The vehicle was searched and a rhino horn, which weighed 1.2kg was found. The value of the rhino horn is R1.2m,” she said.

The vehicle that was made use of, in the commission of the crime was taken hold of.

The suspect was apprehended and charged to court for having a rhino horn in his possession. He will come before the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court on Monday.
