Axed Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku revealed that he will be heading to court to have the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) findings against him to be set aside.

This announcement comes after Premier David Makhura dismissed Masuku as the Health MEC.

According to the SIU, Masuku failed to execute his functions in compliance with the Constitution and Public Finance Management Act following Covid-19 PPE fraud.

However, Masuku slammed the preliminary findings by the SIU.

He claimed that the findings were incorrect and non-factual in relation to his role as an executive authority.

He also accused the SIU of ignoring affidavits and making no mention of the facts he provided.

Meanwhile, Makhura indicated that the investigation into the PPE fraud is still ongoing.

“With regard to the substantive public interest issue of whether the MEC was involved in acts of corruption or collusion, the SIU has reported to me that this investigation is ongoing.”
