Nurses’ union Denosa made an open call to Gauteng Premier David Makhura to step down as investigation into the Covid-19 tender corruption within the provincial Health Department continues.
This call was made over the weekend at the union’s provincial executive committee where they met to discuss the latest developments, including the dismissal of Health MEC Bandile Masuku over the PPE corruption scandal.
Denosa’s Gauteng chairperson Simphiwe Gada disclosed that the union was preparing a letter to Makhura.
He said there were allegations implicating Makhura, but he didn’t elaborate it.
He also added that no one had held Makhura accountable for major scandals in his administration.
These scandals includes the Life Esidimeni tragedy and the fire at the Lisbon building which housed the Health Department.
The building was declared non compliant in terms of occupational health and safety standards but nothing has been done.
Makhura’s office is yet to respond to Denosa’s claims.
