Court has postponed the case against a businessman accused of defrauding the City of Johannesburg of more than R7.5 million.

The case has been postponed for pre-trial.

Deon Pillay appeared briefly before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Pillay is the sole director of Esizwe Technology (Pty) Ltd.

After he was paid R7,529,244 by the City of Johannesburg (COJ), he refused to deliver 570 desktops.

It was further reported that due to Pillay’s failure to deliver the desktops as expected, the municipality suffered a financial loss.

Pillay is currently facing charges of fraud, theft and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crimes Act.

Pillay was granted release on R50 000 bail.

He is expected to return to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on November 10.
