Slowly and steadily all the symptoms of the highly contagious coronavirus are unfolding before us.

In the past ten months, we have come to know a lot about the way it affects different people and the way it responds to different kinds of drugs.

Covid-19 being an upper respiratory system illness mostly leads to dry cough, sore throat, chills and weakness.

Besides, this viral infection also has some secondary symptoms like conjunctivitis, headache, loss of smell and taste. Another addition to this long list of symptoms is skin rashes.

COVID and skin rashes

Respiratory diseases and skin rashes! It is hard to believe there can be any link between the two. But when it comes to COVID, expect the unexpected. One thing that we all have learnt about Covid-19 till now is anything can happen and skin rashes in COVID patients is just a proof of that.

Several studies have been carried out in different parts of the world which prove that skin rashes can be a common symptom in patients infected with the virus. As per a study, 18 out of 88 coronavirus patients they examined in the hospital had developed rashes after being infected with the virus.

Other study

Another study carried out by King’s college, London also clearly indicated skin rashes as a major symptom of coronavirus. As per the researchers of this University, the virus first shows up on the skin for some people or those who do not develop other symptoms. They suggested that skin rashes should be taken seriously and treated immediately.

What do the rashes look like?

It is difficult to clearly state how the rashes in COVID cases look like as they are quite different from one another. Some experienced hives with rashes, for others it is like chickenpox or just flat and blotchy marks. It is difficult to clearly identify how the skin rashes would look like.

What should you do?

There is no fixed way to differentiate between rashes caused due to virus infection and other health issues. Just by a glance of it, nothing can be predicted. Due to this COVID infection might get undiagnosed in patients for a long time, especially in asymptomatic people. Now that we know that skin rash is a symptom of Covid-19 then we must not take it lightly. If you witness any kind of rashes in your skin then consult your doctor.
