7 act of kindness to practice in your relationship

Happy couples are never rude but instead spoil each other with acts of kindness.

This is one of the key things you need to make any relationship work which seems to be a forgotten trait hence why many relationships end in misery.

We tend to get in relationships with the wrong expectations making it lose its appeal. Love is not just a feeling, it’s an action verb.

If you’re wondering how to have better relationships, here are some acts of kindness you can practice:

1. Avoid harsh words

It’s easy to lose your temper and use harsh words to express your anger. However, this can be the downfall of your relationship since emotional abuse is just as bad as physical abuse. Showing restraint is one of the kindest things you can do for your partner. This also solidifies your relationship as it shows that you value and respect the other person.

2. Increase your affection

Showing affection should be a regular act of kindness since sparks fizzle over time when intimacy is neglected. This can lead to tension and resentment between couples. Sometimes, your partner just needs to be wined and dined a little so as to feel the love. If you don’t normally initiate intimacy, try to do it for a change. Give them more hugs, cuddles, and surprise them with a gift.

3. Buy them breakfast

Due to busy schedules, your partner may leave home without having a hearty breakfast. One of the most thoughtful things you can do for them is to deliver a hot cup of coffee and some biting. Additionally, you can take them on a breakfast date occasionally to show you care about their wellbeing. Besides, who doesn’t want breakfast from their favourite café?

4. Smile

This is one of the simplest acts of kindness but you’ll be surprised by the difference a simple smile makes. We tend to mirror our partner’s emotions so when they see that you’re happy, their mood also changes. A smile can also be comforting in times of distress. If you notice your partner is having a bad day, try flashing your pearly whites at them and watch how they react.

5. Be responsible

It can be overwhelming when someone carries the weight of the relationship all the time. Being responsible – in the home or personal lives – could be one of the kindest things you can do for your partner. Start with small things such as cleaning after yourself and communicating clearly. You can also plan for your future as a couple.

6. Support their dreams

It’s a sweet and kind gesture to have someone’s back, especially in a relationship. Ask about their dreams and what you can do to help them achieve them. You may not be able to actually help them. However, offering physical and emotional support is enough for them to chase after their dreams. Lending a listening ear to their dreams can also mean a lot to them and make the relationship stronger.

7. Make them feel safe

Relationships should be a safe space where you can let your guard down. As such, one of the most important acts of kindness you can do is make your partner feel safe. Let them know that they can be themselves around you. If they’re having a moment of weakness, try not to judge them.
