A lot of times, we tend to focus on the wrongs going on in our lives and our minds magnify them.
Instead of acknowledging all the things going on right in our relationships and appreciating your partner, we concentrate on those that go wrong but it’s not too late to change your mindset.
This article is just a reminder to stop and smell the roses. Here are 5 things you should be grateful for and not take for granted.
1. A partner who listens
This may seem like the barest minimum but there are a LOT of relationships that cannot boast of this. It’s easy to assume that you know your partner so well and that you know what they want or what they mean when they say something and just keep going with your gut instead of actually listening to what they want and doing just that.
2. Thoughtful gifts
It’s really not about the most expensive gift but about the thoughtful ones. The ones you spoke about in passing but your partner picked up on and bought for you. The random messages appreciating you or the random acts of kindness should not be taken for granted.
3. Having financial support
No matter whether your partner is rich or not, the fact that they’ve decided to invest their money on you or your business should never be taken for granted. It means they believe in you and they put their money where their mouths are. If you can rely on your partner for financial support when times are hard, you should appreciate them. Do not take it for granted because they can afford it.
4. Being able to lean on them when you have a crisis
Not everyone can call their partner for support or advice when the world seems to be against them. A number of people have very judgemental partners ad cannot confide in them when they’re struggling mentally, emotionally or even physically. If you have someone you can run to and be vulnerable with when you feel terrible, you should appreciate them.
5. Regular physical contact
This is not just about sex but about physical companionship. Everyday closeness and touch increases your oxytocin levels which is associated with bonding and relaxation. The next time you’re cuddling, bask in it and appreciate how lucky you are.
