Love is a beautiful emotion that’s inexplicable in words.

People feel this emotion in various ways, allowing them to be closer and connected to the ones they love and yearn for.

Even though it’s super complicated, it can be alluring and amazing. All those moments that include love are a psychological reaction of our brain and heart.

What we feel affects our body, mind and soul. Let’s now know some psychological facts about love you probably weren’t aware of.

1. Attraction is obsession

With all the hormones being released in our bodies when we are in love, it is normal to feel happy and excited. Interestingly, when there’s attraction, our mind relates it with the ‘reward’ section of our brain that spikes up when happy. And this happens when we feel attracted to someone and whom we are naturally obsessed with as well.

2. Love is complicated

Love is actually an amalgamation of three feelings: lust, attachment and attraction. And these emotions vary in different situations, eventually confusing people to the very core. It’s not very easy to juggle these emotions together and it may even result in disasters if not handled well. And so, we eventually, literally say, “love is pretty complicated.”

3. Attachments aren’t necessarily love

Attachments don’t necessarily mean a romantic bond where lust and attraction do. We may have attachments with our friends, pets, parents etc. Hormones such as oxytocin and vasopressin are huge factors in long-term relationships that extend to attachments and feelings of love and affection.

4. Being in love affects your appetite

When we are ‘so in love,’ all we think about is our partner. The high levels of dopamine and norepinephrine release in our system make us feel euphoric and giddy in love. These happy chemicals induce love so much that we literally forget to focus on other things as well, and one of them being our appetite. We just forget to eat and sleep well.

5. The time you take to fall in love

Ever heard of love-at-first-sight stories? Yes, it’s pretty true that a person can instantly fall in love with someone. Quite factually, a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine observed that it takes a person one-fifth of a second to fall in love with someone. It takes that quickly to fall in love!

6. Love can relieve pain

Passionate feelings of love can actually relieve our pain. When we are experiencing mid pain or you’re feeling emotional pain pangs in your heart, looking at your partner’s picture or simply talking to them can make you feel ten times better.
