Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize is dead

Hlengiwe Mkhize who is the deputy minister for Women, Youth, and People with Disabilities in the Presidency died at the age of 69.


ANC’s spokesman, Pule Mabe confirmed the heartbreaking news, saying: “We received news that one of our national executive members, Hlengiwe Mkhize had passed on. We have been in contact with the family and we can confirm that her passing had nothing to do with Covid-19, so that there are no speculations.”

Casue of death is yet to be known, but a few persons have taken to social media, paying tribute to the late deputy minister.

Mkhize also held the position of Minister of Higher Education and Training from 17 October 2017 until 26 February 2018.

She’s also a founding member and a trustee of the Children and Violence Trust. She has been a trustee of the Malibongwe Business Trust since 2005, and has been the chairwoman of the Peace Commission of the South African Women in Dialogue since 2004, as well as treasurer-general of the ANC Women’s League.
