1. Cut the split ends
I know it hurts to cut your hair but the split ends needs to go. Once a hair strand has begun to split, it will continue climbing up the shaft. If you have products that say they treat split ends, just know it’s a band-aid solution and not a resolution. Go to someone who’s qualified enough and get them to do the cut for you. Remember, it will grow back. Besides, health over length.
2. Reduce the direct heat
Too much heat damages the hair. Stop with the curling irons, flat irons, and pressing combs; your hair is suffering. Instead of blow drying, try air drying. Just try as much as possible to reduce the direct heat.
3. Reduce the use of butters and oils
A lot of people think oils and butters are the holy grail to keep their hair “moisturized” but it’s the opposite. Oils and butters don’t provide moisture, water does. So increase the number of times you wash your hair in a month. If you can wash it weekly, do it so your hair is always moisturized. Remember, only water moisturizes your hair.
4. Protein treatments
And not the DIY kind; use formulated products because the ingredients have been carefully selected in the perfect quantities for your hair. Most of the foods that we put on our hair do the bare minimum because the proteins are too large to be absorbed into our hair.
