4 foods that can cause erectile dysfunction

You are what you eat, so if you are consuming foods that lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and eventually, diabetes, then you are definitely at risk for the development of erectile dysfunction.

Remember, erectile dysfunction is a blood flow problem, and unhealthy or specific types of food can impact your blood vessel health.

Here are four foods that we find are the most common culprits of erectile dysfunction.

1. Fried food

Most people know that these foods are bad nutritionally for the diet but eating them on a consistent basis can lead to major health issue such as:

  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity

All of these potential health issues have a direct connection and impact on erectile dysfunction. A healthy diet is an important factor in your overall health, so keep fried food as a special treat and not a main staple to your diet.

2. Red meat

Erectile dysfunction is one of the first symptoms of  a heart problem. Most cuts of red meat contain high levels of saturated fat, which can lead to high cholesterol and heart disease. Eat low fat protein options such as chicken, salmon, and beans to help keep your heart healthy – and your sex life healthy.  A happy heart means successful sexual function. Poor heart health leads to poor circulation and erectile dysfunction.

3. Pre-packaged foods

Cans and plastics are things that store and line our meats and vegetables. Sadly, these measures meant to protect and preserve our foods, are also loaded with Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical that inhibits sexual hormones.

BPA not only decreases sexual desire, but it also contributes to infertility and erectile dysfunction.

Plastic water bottles and microwave dinners are the biggest culprits of BPA-filled foods. To stay healthy, keep these products to a minimum.

4. Alcohol

More than two drinks a day for men is not recommended. While alcohol may lower your inhibitions and loosen you up, your erections could also become difficult to maintain or simply non-existent.
