Esther Mahlangu was reported to be robbed and attacked in her house at Siyabuswa near KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga.
The hideous incident occurred on Saturday, 19 March 2022 at around 15:00 according to the South African Police Service; they also revealed that she was alone at home.
The 87-year-old was preparing to nap, then she had the doors locked but an unknown man had found his way into the house
SAPS Provincial spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that “the man then allegedly grabbed her and punched her in the face before tying both her hands with a cable and tried to strangle her until she reportedly became unconscious.”
“The woman sustained some bruises on her face and the matter was reported to police at Siyabuswa whereby a house robbery case was opened, hence the manhunt,” Mohlala added.
Mahlangu didn’t recall what happened after she went unconscious, but she realized after gaining consciousness that her firearm and money kept in the safe were stolen by the intruder.
South Africans have taken to social media to express their disgust at the erroneous and vile act the artist experienced as she’s a national treasure.
