Kabza De Small acknowledges DJ Maphorisa as the one who taught him all he needed to know about music ownership.
Music ownership has been one of the issues among musicians across different countries and a few have come to the internet to lament, however, in Maphorisa’s case, he enjoys bragging about owning his masters.
Maphorisa recently mentioned in an interview that he’s seen the value in owning the right to his music.
“For me, it’s important to own what I created, it obviously comes with a lot of work because you don’t have “big machine” support. But it’s worth it in the long run,” he explained.
Kabza De Small who is a friend and music partner to Lawd Phori as also picked some lessons as he claimed that he learned music ownership from Phori.
“I was actually taught by Maphorisa, he showed me the value and how important it is — all the music I’ve released I’ve owned, and I don’t regret it. I’ve come to learn you can work with majors in various ways and still win your music rights. It has worked for us,” de small said.
