Onions are extremely low in calories. As per experts, 1 cup of chopped onion carries only 64 calories of energy and hence its consumption is safe during the weight loss journey.

3. Rich in Quercetin

Onions are also rich in a plant compound called Quercetin. It is a flavonoid that has anti-obesity properties and is considered healthy for the body.

Easy onion recipes

While onions are often used as an element to enhance the flavour of food, it can also be used as the main ingredient in weight loss recipes too. For instance, onion juice, when consumed on an empty stomach can do wonders. Take a look at simple and easy onion recipes.

  • Onion juice

Boil 1 cup of water along with a small peeled onion, and cut into cubes. Allow it to cool down and blend it long with 1 cup of water. Pour this juice into a glass and drink it.

  • ​Onion soup

In a pan, add 1 tsp oil, and 2 garlic cloves and sauté well. Next, add 2 chopped onions and 1/2 cup of veggies of your choice. Stir and cook for 2-5 mins. Add salt and pepper, and cook for 20 mins. Your homemade onion soup is ready. Serve hot.

  • Onion and vinegar
Peel and cut an onion into small dices. Soak the dices in sugarcane vinegar, Serve as a salad with rice and lentil.
