Exercising and workouts are effective steps towards achieving your weight loss goals.

It can give you commendable results and help in attaining your fitness levels. But you must perform these physical activities in moderation.

Working out tirelessly, practicing strenuous and heavy exercises including calisthenics can prove dangerous for your health and well-being.

It is advised that you practice exercising under expert supervision, being aware of the pros and cons of each exercise.

Here are some of the indications which prove that exercising excessively is hampering you physically and mentally.

1. Affected performance

While hitting the gym or while practicing various forms of aerobic physical activities like cycling, swimming or running there is a decrease in your performance speed or you notice yourself perspiring or palpitating, it’s an indication for your body to take a break. Don’t force yourself to sweat it out beyond your tolerance and capacity.

2. Low energy levels

Excessive workouts on a daily basis can lead to fatigue, disturbing your overall functionality of your body. Such strenuous workouts also lead to longer resting periods which can badly affect your daily routine. Frequent exercise may result in injuries as well, which results in a lack of motivation or a burn out. It is advised to slowly pace your level of physical activity.

3. Side effect on mental health

A research-based study of Preventive Medicine says that working out for more than 7.5 hours a week can cause mental disorders like anxiety and depression. As your body has been pushed beyond its limits, you can experience uncertainty, infuriation, aggression and volatility.

4. Insomnia

While moderate exercising can help you feel relaxed and give you a good night’s sleep, an extended workout sesh can stimulate your stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. The arousal of such hormones may result in sleepless nights.

5. A painful experience!

If you are not relaxing and rejuvenating your body, you can experience a lot of pain and soreness as your muscles have not got enough time to recover. This can affect your daily chores and can make you feel lackadaisical most of the day. Practicing a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout for a long period can tighten your muscles and lead to exertion.

6. Irregular menstrual cycle

Excessive exercising can also have a negative impact on your menstrual health, which can cause delayed periods. This is termed amenorrhea aka exercise-induced anorexia. It is followed by a low amount of energy in the body due to not eating sufficiently. Amenorrhea decreases your metabolic rate to such levels that it prevents your body from ovulating and energy consumption.
