The humble kitchen is bursting with all-rounder ingredients that do everything from keeping us healthy to making our skin glow.
In simple words, tomato is a saviour for people with oily skin. This fruit has astringent properties which can help control excess sebum production—thus helping you tame your acne.
The best part? When you use tomato for skin, you also get the added benefit of unclogged pores that are free of whiteheads and blackheads.
Now, if you’re itching to know how you can use tomatoes to get clear skin, then here are three homemade face packs featuring the fruit that you can start with.
1. Rub it on your face
If you are looking for an easy, fuss-free way of getting the job done then nothing could be better than gently rubbing a tomato wedge on active zones on your face. Let your skin soak up the juice for an hour, after which you can rinse your face with water and moisturise as usual.
Tomatoes contain citric acid and malic acid, both of which exfoliate the skin and unclog the pores by removing dead skin cells—thus revealing brighter, smoother skin.
2. Add yogurt and besan to it
This is a juicy take on the basic besan face pack we’ve all experimented with in our teenage years. The power of tomato, when combined with the lactic acid in yogurt, helps shrink pores and keeps oiliness at bay. Besan adds mild physical exfoliation to the mix, thus helping the cause.
Here’s you can go about it: In a bowl, add two tablespoons of tomato pulp, one tablespoon of yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of coarse besan. Mix all the ingredients until well combined. Apply this face pack on clean skin, let it dry (this should take about 20 to 30 minutes), and gently rub it off with a little bit of water. Et voila! Do this twice a week for best results.
3. Use cucumber with tomatoes
Think of this remedy as a salad that your acne-prone skin needs to nosh on. Much like tomatoes, cucumbers have astringent properties too—with the added ability to maintain the skin’s pH balance. Both of them together can reduce oiliness and prevent acne flare-ups.
Since both these ingredients are mushy, you can extract the juice of cucumber and tomato individually using your blender, mix it together, and use it as a toner-cum-face pack twice or thrice a week. But remember to apply this on cleansed skin and rinse it off after half an hour.
