The nine-month journey of pregnancy is no less than a roller coaster ride.

During the gestation period, a woman’s body goes through a lot of changes. She has to be very careful of what she eats and the type of lifestyle she leads.

Women are advised to stay physically active unless it’s a high-risk pregnancy. It is important for a mom to be and even a new mom to take care of her mental and physical being over everything else.

While there is a never-ending list of the possible queries would-be mothers have. One of the most common questions asked by doctors is if a pregnant woman can wear heels.

As per experts, though a woman can wear heels in the first trimester, but only for a little time. This is because the progesterone levels increase during the pregnancy and there can be some laxity of the ligaments and joints. There is weight gain along with some swelling. The gravitational centre of the spine is bent at the time and there is instability of the joints. Thus, wearing heels can make it difficult for a pregnant lady to walk.

It is advised that a woman can wear small heels, which do not disturb the balance while she walks. During the late pregnancy, the position of the tummy changes and the pelvic tilts happen. When the centre of gravity changes, it leads to leg pain, backache and can even stimulate premature labour pain at times.

Heels should always be small, comfortable and should have a tight grip around the feet. During pregnancy, the safety of the mother and the baby should be the priority.

Thus, it is advised to choose footwear that you feel most comfortable in.
