6 ways to give your home a budget makeover

A home should be that space where you feel happy and relaxed. And the little details we put into the colours, arrangements and decor reflect our unique personal tastes.

There are times when that safe and calm space feels like a snoozefest.

Not that the furniture or colours are boring, it’s just that you’ve outgrown your taste since the last time you gave your space a facelift.

That feeling is a sign that your house needs a makeover. It might seem hard to do that when you don’t have a lot of money for a renovation but, it is very much possible.

With just a few thousand shillings, you can make a couple of changes here and there.

Here are some ideas you can incorporate to breathe in a brand-new feel to your home:

1. Put up a wallpaper

Walls in a home are functional, of course, but they are also part of your home’s aesthetic appeal. When you’re tired of the colour you’ve had for a long time, you would probably think of bringing in someone to paint as the only option. The challenge is that painting can be quite expensive and time-consuming. So why not opt for a faster idea like wallpaper?

Wallpaper doesn’t cost much to buy and install, and, you can replace it at any time. You also have so many design options that are more interesting than plain paint colours which is another plus.

2. Give your furniture a fresh coat

Our furniture, like other household goods, goes through wear and tear over the years. They get chipped, the colour fades, and since they draw in a lot of attention they will always be one of the first items to be noticed.

Because you’re on a budget, you don’t need to get new ones. You can simply take them to get a fresh coat of paint, varnish or stain if you want to give your wooden pieces a more vibrant shade.

3, Rearrange

Rearranging a home makes such a big difference. When you walk into the room, you will feel like you’re in an entirely new space.

You can search online for different layouts and move your furniture around to see what works best for you. This is quick, easy and most importantly, free!

4. Put up a chandelier

Chandeliers always have this expensive look. They bring a glamourous effect to any space and maybe this is all you need.

Chandeliers are often quite costly but not all of them. You can look around and find some for below five thousand shillings which is worth it. Alternatively, you can try a ceiling lampshade which is even more affordable and easy to install.

5. Make some DIY décor

Décor pieces look good but they can put a lot of pressure on your budget. You would be surprised to know that you can replicate some of the most expensive-looking pieces with basic materials.

YouTube has so many videos on how you can make some of these pieces. With the many options to choose from, Pinterest can also be a great place to start if you don’t mind reading through blogs.
