5 beauty trends you need to ditch this year

Beauty trends will always come and go with each passing year.

The trends that were there in the 80s transitioned to something new in the 90s and what was in the 90s morphed into a new phase in the 2000s, and the same will continue through different eras.

As we prepare to move into a New Year, we can expect that some trends will remain while others will be replaced by something new.

Many beauty trends were popping up this year from overlining lips to the clean girl esthetic makeup looks, and some might not actually make it to next year.

So, if you want to start 2023 on the right side of fashion, here are some expired looks you need to drop:

1. DIY skincare

If you’re reading this chances are, you have definitely come across tons of posts of people giving skin care tips online. And since most of us aren’t experts in skin care, we might believe that some of the advice we see is actually beneficial.

There are dermatologists who have talked about patients who came in with burns, severe breakouts and other major irreversible problems because of following random DIY skincare trends.

This one is harmful and it definitely needs to be ditched as soon as possible. If you have skin problems, pay to see a skincare expert for proper diagnosis and treatment. You will be glad you did rather than learn the hard way.

2. Unnatural microblading

Eyebrow microblading has become extremely popular. This has restored the brows of many women who got caught up in the thin brow trend that was there decades ago.

However, not everyone who says they can micro-blade actually knows how to do it well. There are artists who tattoo unnatural brow shapes, odd-looking hair strokes and extremely black tints on their clients and get away with it.

All I’m saying is we should always do proper research before getting any procedure done for this bad trend to die.

3. Sleek hairstyles

Sleek hairstyles are connected to the clean girl aesthetic trend going on. This trend is about looking polished at all times, which is a good thing, but the problem is that it doesn’t give room for anything else, like natural hair.

The problem arises when girls sleek down hair that is naturally curly all the time. Even with wigs, you may want to rest your straight human hair with more believable wigs that mimic 4C natural hair whether in its coily state or straightened.

4. Extreme nails

There’s definitely a wide variety of nail designs that look really cute. There are some with interesting colours and patterns, and those toned-down tints like nude that always look very classy.

The issue here is with over-the-top nails with all types of funny embellishments. Also, there are those that are extremely long and don’t look natural at all.

And to be honest, we have seen enough of them, and yes, it’s time for them to retire finally.

5. Heavy blush

Blush adds a youthful effect to any makeup look. It has been trending this year and people are loving the glow it gives.

There is nothing wrong with wanting some blush to enhance your look but there is a correct way of applying it because a little goes a long way.

Heavy blush may have been a thing this year but don’t expect to see it in 2023.
