Travelling can be fun, but it can also be a cumbersome affair, especially if you are keeping an eye on your body.

The non-availability of home food can get in the way of health goals and can prevent you from having a truly enjoyable travel session.

So whether you are backpacking, vacationing, or travelling for work, here are some tips that will help you lead a healthy lifestyle even when you’re away from home and on the move.

1. Carry healthy snacks

Small bites like nuts, including peanuts, cashes, almonds, and pistas make for a healthy and nutritious snack. Not only do they provide you with the nutrients and energy that you need for travelling, but they also help you in staying away from unhealthy snacks like potato chips, cookies, and pastries.

2. Avoid tea and coffee on the flight

Tea and coffee might be alright to drink if travelling by road, but try to avoid drinking them when travelling by air. The same potable water that goes through the bathroom system is used to prepare tea or coffee. Apart from being unhygienic, this may put you at risk of contracting E. Coli, a bacterium which causes many unpleasant symptoms.

3. Request food from the staff kitchen

If in a hotel, request for food that is made from the staff kitchen instead of eating at a restaurant or ordering room service. Food prepared for the staff is healthier and more homely.

4. Eat before stepping out

Have dinner sent to your room before stepping out. If you happen to return late, the kitchen will close, and you are most likely to end up ordering food you should stay away from.

5. Stay hydrated

While travelling, be sure to carry a bottle of water at all times. Staying hydrated is of utmost importance. Water replenishes our fluid reserves that we are likely to lose while travelling, and it also quenches our thirst. Water has many other functions that must be kept in optimum condition while travelling, like regulating body temperature and resisting infections.
