Green peas are the life of most of the dishes in winter. However, with the onset of summer, the availability of green peas in the market wanes.
The store-bought green peas have preservatives in them for increasing the shelf-life, which hampers the taste of the peas.
However, when we store these peas at home, they are stored without any external preservatives, which helps in retaining the original taste.
So, if you are also someone who wants to store these green peas at home, here are some of the easiest methods using which you can easily keep them fresh for long time at home.
1. Use pencil peas
Pencil peas are known to be sweet in taste and thus they are the safest bet when saving peas for the whole year. Also, the grains of pencil peas have less starch in them, which helps in keeping them fresh for longer duration.
2. Apply mustard oil
To store green peas, first, peel the peas and separate their skins. Now, keep thick and thin peas in separate utensils. Keep in mind that the thin grains of peas are raw. Due to this, the chances of getting damaged are high. In such a situation, it is better to store thick peas. Now put 1 teaspoon of mustard oil on the thick peas and mix it well. After this, fill the peas in polythene and tie them with rubber and then keep the peas in the fridge. Due to this green peas will not spoil throughout the year.
3. Boil green peas
This is one of the easiest methods to preserve green peas for longer durations. For this, heat water in a pan. Now put peas in water and boil for 2 minutes. Then filter the water and separate the peas. Now take ice cold water in the pan and put the boiled peas in this water. After the peas cool down, spread them on a clean cloth and wait for the water of the peas to dry. After this, pack the peas by filling them in polythene or air-tight container and then store them in the fridge. With this peas will remain fresh for one year.
