Some employees are very lucky to get their due, whose work is seen and appreciated even if they are not doing as much and are making the same mistakes as you are.
However, there is an unfortunate lot where employees feel that they are undervalued at their workplace.
If you want to communicate this issue with your boss with appraisal time around the corner, here are some steps that must be taken with a few tips.
1. Plan your conversation
If you have been feeling undervalued then record instances when you felt so. Also, make a list of the points you want to say or discuss with your boss so that you know what you have to say instead of going blank when your boss cross questions.
2. Be clear about your wants
In many situations, employees forget or are unclear about what they really want from their boss and this is nothing but another reason why your boss will pay you less heed. If you want coworkers to share the tasks, you want to compile the meetings that take up your time, or you feel the acknowledgment of your hard work is missing but a colleague who does nothing gets it all, then be clear!
3. Possible solutions
If you have some solutions to the issues you are facing, then be ready with them and suggest them out loud when the discussion is going on. Let your boss know that you are not into complaining, you like things to have a solution too.
4. Judge the mood
When you approach your boss about your issues, make sure they are in a good mood. It will be more in your favour if you go to him or her right after you have accomplished a task that was given or a project that was recently, successfully handled.
5. Don’t fight or argue
Keep the atmosphere positive when you speak to your boss and do not argue to fight. Positive language is a must and while bringing up your issues, focus on what you can do, not what you can’t.
6. Don’t get emotional
Whether they are hurtful words or her or him being just mean, you are wrongly accused of something during the discussion, do not let your emotions come out. Some people even start crying when they are angry, so this must be paid attention to.
